The secret of your success is the extent to which you are helping people in different communities to help themselves. This provides a genuine sense of 'ownership' and encourages the inevitable cynics to join in. My sincere congratulations on your progress."

On the Threshold of a new Form of Giving
A message from the President of Philanthropy Australia
While community foundations have been in existence for many decades in North America, and for some years here in Australia, the movement to establish new forms of community giving and community grant-making is really only just starting to burgeon across our nation.
One of the main advantages of a community foundation is that it can reflect local people and local needs, but that should not preclude using the benefits of others' experience. There is no point re-inventing the wheel when you can start with a prototype that is known to work!
