Have some Fun in Philanthropy FEB 2009- JULY 2009

Philanthropy- the planned and structured giving of money, time, information, goods and services, voice and influence to improve the wellbeing of humanity and the community.
YOU are invited to express your interest in this pilot program which would include
Meeting and working with young people (16-23) to:-
  • Gain new skills in a group environment
  • Develop relationships with the non-profit sector
  • Discover creative ways to improve your community
  • Achieve success in a safe team environment.

Aim

To create a decision making 'Youth in Philanthropy' Committee to enable the Tasmanian Community Foundation (TCF) to raise and distribute funds to approved non profit charitable youth organisations.
The TCF invites you to apply for a position on the 'Youth in Philanthropy' committee (a subcommittee of the TCF).
The purpose of this committee is to enable TCF to be inclusive of youth involvement in philanthropy in Tasmania as a part of its organisation.
The commitment of time expected from the successful applicants to this subcommittee of TCF would include:-
Availability to attend meetings in Hobart on a 2-3 hour basis for the purpose of
  • Training sessions in Philanthropy x 3
  • Strategic planning in Fund Development x 2
  • Grant assessments and recommendations x 3
  • Meetings(1/2hr) with prospective Donors (TCF Directors to support).
A grant round is preferred to have been completed in a relatively short time frame (April-June 2009) through funds held by TCF. The nature of the grants is expected (by the Funder) to be on a small grants incentive basis. This has been funded through the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) as a part of an Australia wide program.
It is envisaged that a 'Youth in Philanthropy' Committee will complete an assessment on grants allocated by receiving reports back from successful applicants. Reporting includes the measurable success on how an organisations grant is making a difference in their own community.
In the interests of maintaining the future engagement of young people with the TCF it is proposed to conduct a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) in July 09 with the inaugural Committee.
A preferred outcome of this analysis is to have in place a succession plan to enable this pilot Youth Committee to lead to a permanent involvement by young people in the future development of the Tasmanian Community Foundation.
The Community Foundation in Tasmania is currently entering a phase of new development. This includes the organization will be now be managed in Hobart. A program of Board Renewal is well under way. Exciting announcements will also soon be made in regard to a strategic alliance partner- watch this space!
The Myer Foundation/Sidney Myer Fund have invited the Community Foundation to be a partner in the Commemorative Grants Program 2009. The 'Celebrating Our Partners' project is the subject of research 2009-2011 that includes the Community Foundation as a participant. The 1st workshop has been conducted in Melbourne in February 09.
